The nearest plane takes the center.

Flight number, airline, aircraft type, where it’s from and where it’s going, altitude, speed and how far away it is. Every other aircraft sits on the edge of the screen in its real compass direction, nose pointing the way it’s flying.

  • Turn and the sky turns with you. Icons slide around the edge, so whatever’s at the top is in front of you.
  • Swipe, tap, hold. Swipe for the next one out, tap any plane to bring it in, hold to pin it.
  • Your radius. Anything from 2 to 100 miles.
  • Day and night. Paper and ink by day, a night radar after dark.
The radar in dark mode: JetBlue B6819 from Detroit to New York JFK in the center, 2 miles away and closing, with about 26 aircraft around the edge.
The radar in light mode: Air Canada AC718 from Toronto to LaGuardia in the center, an Airbus A220-300 at 3,575 feet, with aircraft and mile labels around the edge.

The full story, one tap away.

Tap the center for a photo of that exact aircraft, its route on a map, how far along the flight it is and when it will pass closest to you. If you’ve seen that same plane before, the app remembers.

Raise your iPhone to the sky.

Sky View opens the camera and labels the aircraft you can actually see, right where they are. Line one up to lock on, zoom in and take a photo.

Every photo is filed in your logbook as a boarding pass with the flight, the aircraft and the moment you spotted it, ready to share.

Every plane that passes, logged.

Every aircraft that comes inside your radius goes in your logbook: when and where you saw it, how close it came, and whether it was a first. Dig into the numbers, chase records and earn badges, from First Contact to Queen of the Skies. It all syncs across iPhone, iPad and Apple TV with iCloud.

The logbook’s overview: today’s highlights, including an Emirates A380 and a US Navy trainer, then totals for aircraft spotted, airframes, types, airlines and countries, and a chart of the last 14 days.

Today’s highlights at the top, then your totals, your streak and the last two weeks.

A heads-up for the good stuff.

Get an alert when a plane is about to pass right over you, or when something unusual is around: emergency squawks, military and government flights, air ambulances and rare aircraft. Sky Watch keeps an eye on the sky for up to two hours, with a Live Activity on your Lock Screen.

iPad

Room for the whole sky.

On iPad the radar fills the screen, by day or by night. Turn it sideways with Map view on and a live map of the traffic sits beside the radar, turning as you turn.

On a folding iPhone, open it halfway: radar on one side of the fold, map on the other.

The iPad radar at night: Atlas Air 5Y855, a rare Boeing 747-400, descending into JFK, with around 29 aircraft on the edge.

Apple Watch

Point at a plane.

A radar on your wrist with its own GPS. Raise your arm toward an aircraft and the Watch tells you what it is, or pick one and let haptics lead you to it. Complications show what’s nearest at a glance.

The Watch radar: Delta DL5721 from Boston to LaGuardia, 3 miles away, with aircraft around the edge.

Find. Clicks and taps on your wrist guide you to the one you picked.

Apple TV

The sky on the big screen.

A radar, a map, or both side by side, with alerts read aloud when something flies over. Send your spot and the way your TV faces from your iPhone in one tap.

Apple TV in Split view: United UA70 from Newark to Amsterdam on the radar, beside a map of New York traffic.
